  1. This is the ReadMe File for the material on the
  2. Archive monthly disc to accompany the JPEG column.
  3.  
  4. The two applications are:
  5.  
  6. !JFIF by Neil Hoggarth
  7. !JPEGinst by Thomas Down.
  8.  
  9. (!JPEGinst installs the application !JPEGit.)
  10.  
  11. Both contain full document files.
  12. Both are public domain - please read the conditions
  13. about their use contained in the document files.
  14.  
  15. As !JFIF works with a standard !ChangeFSI (albeit with
  16. one line in its bootfile changed), and !JPEGit modifies
  17. !ChangeFSI itself, you are very strongly recommended
  18. to use different copies of !ChangeFSI in separate
  19. directories!

  21. Additionally, there are four image files:
  22.  
  23. AST was supplied by Mike Williams, and shows the kind
  24. of image that can be JPEGed into 75K.
  25.  
  26. GtShepherd, from Cain Hunt is a 25K JPEG image.
  27.  
  28. PlayIt is a 22K JPEG version of the file printed in the
  29. Archive article. (Q=25, original size 357k). It may be 
  30. compared for image quality with PlaySqueez, which is twice
  31. the size, but produced by using scaling under !ChangeFSI.
  32. Clearly, the smaller (JPEG) file produces far better
  33. definition - on any output device!
